Supporting the Safe Center
Helping Support the Only Women & Children's Domestic Violence Safe House in Nassau County
The Safe House Long Island was created as a merger between two former non-profit agencies: the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CADV) and the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN). They provide services to women, men, and children, across all ages and races.
The Safe Center is designed as an epicenter of hope and support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, childhood abuse, neglect, and trafficking. The Center is equipped with offices for support staff, and other agencies such as the NYPD and CPS as well as therapy rooms for adult clients and those designed specifically for children's therapy.
Medical examination rooms, law offices of the on-staff law firm, and an area for the Special Victims Unit police are also present in the center so that victims can seek all areas of help available to them in a simplified and gentle way. This cohesion not only helps the individuals but also those who work to aid victims, enabling them to work together easier and increase communication within their close proximity, the goal being to better assist clients in quality, timeliness, and enhance prosecutions of offenders.
The Safe Center Provides:
24 Hour Hotline, in which counselors, trained in the areas of crisis intervention, sexual assault, rape and domestic violence, speak with callers: 516-542-0404
Services for victims of domestic violence (adults, teens, & children)
Services for victims of sexual assault, rape, and human trafficking
Legal services (divorce, restraining orders, prosecution, etc.) for low income victims
Free individual and group counseling
Managing Nassau County’s only safe house, which provides a safe shelter for victims of domestic violence and their families
Transition services for people moving from the safe house to their new home or directly from a dangerous place to a new home
Advocacy and education for the community on how to prevent and detect childhood abuse and domestic violence
As part of our philanthropy efforts this year we donated 70 items for this as well as for use in their safe house. Donations included laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, diapers, and other necessary household items we were told were in highest demand by the clients the center helps.
