Encouraging Youth in NYC Shelters
Halloween is such an exciting time for children; a day when they can be anything they want to be.
Of course there are many children who don't have the option to put on a costume and bring pillowcases door to door for the gifting of goodies. And there are parents who don't have the luxury of happily heading with their children to the store, picking out exactly what their googly-eyed four-year-old wants to pretend to be this year, who are concerned instead with worrying if they can afford to feed or clothe their children.
We want every child to feel excited about Halloween and every parent to have that amazing feeling of giving their little girl the gift of literally being a princess for a day, or their son the chance to feel he went back in time and really is a cowboy.
After thinking over how best we could affect young families we discovered an organization called Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York. They provide support and services to foster parents, birth parents, over 1,000 foster children, 400 developmentally disabled adults, and over 120 children living on the Wading River campus. We were able to work with Little Flower by personally going out and purchasing some of the most popular Halloween costumes of the season and delivering them to Brooklyn directly.
